Capture card honesty
Match HDMI bandwidth to the output you actually use. Passthrough convenience matters if you play on a TV and stream from a PC. Software capture is fine for pure PC games—don’t buy a card to solve a problem you don’t have.
Mic before lights
USB mics get you streaming this week. Treat room noise seriously: soft surfaces beat another LED bar. Headset mics work for starting; separate mics scale better.
Stream Deck timing
Buy when you have repeated actions: scene swaps, mute, soundboard, markers. Before that it’s an expensive coaster.
