Power is optional. Windows is not. Know both.
Who this is really for
Your Steam and launcher libraries are the point. Ally-class handhelds are for people who want those games on a couch or hotel bed without hauling a laptop slab.
If you enjoy tuning, you will have fun. If you hate OS chores, you will write angry posts.
What it does better
It brings PC flexibility into a handheld shell: settings, mods (where allowed), and the catalog breadth consoles cannot match. Performance modes let you choose noise vs battery vs fidelity.
Docked, it can become a tiny living-room PC with the right hub.
Living with it
Learn a sane TDP default. Keep SSD space honest. Update GPU drivers thoughtfully, not compulsively mid-trip. A good case protects the sticks you will eventually replace if you travel hard.
Cloud saves are your friend across desktop and handheld.
Trade-offs we checked
Against Switch OLED, you win PC games and lose Nintendo exclusives + simplicity. Against a slim laptop, you win pure handheld ergonomics and lose keyboard life. Ally wins when the PC library is sacred.
